The
Costa del Sol is one of the most popular tourist destinations
in the world, it's miles of beautiful sandy beaches and fantastic
weather which have kept tourists flocking back year after
year to resorts like Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola,
Marbella and Ronda. The Costa del Sol caters for young and
old alike, offering a host of entertainment choices for the
native and visitor alike.
|
 |
The
coast boasts one of the highest concentrations of world class
golf courses, to the extent that it is often dubbed "The
Costa del Golf". For families there are theme parks, including
water parks, go-karting, safari parks and many beautiful public
gardens. For younger visitors the main areas of attraction are
Benalmadena's Puerto Marina & '24 hour square' and Marbella's
Puerto Banus. Both are very trendy and chic, but be warned the
bars and clubs don't get busy until near midnight and stay open
till dawn.
Torremolinos
Torremolinos is located 7km
west of Málaga airport and was the first Costa del
Sol resort to be developed back in the early sixties wit was
little more than a sleepy village, still today the town reflects
its heritage with several of the original fresh fish bars
located right in the shopping centre, incongruously flanked
by exclusive boutiques and gift shops. In general, however,
the wave of tourists who descended on the town in the fifties
and sixties changed the face of Torremolinos for ever.
|
 |
With
nine kilometres of wide, sandy beaches, masses of watersports,
an extensive range of bars, shops and restaurants and a throbbing
nightlife, the resort attracts people of all ages. Visitors
from all over Europe flock here in the summer months.
Torremolinos is a town simply bursting with activity so you
won't be struggling to fill your days here. for bucket and spade
family holidays, gay holidays and teen scene fun. The main magnet
for the tourist throng by day is the nine kilometre stretch
of sandy beach where you can sun soak, eat, drink, water ski,
paraglide or simply people watch on the promenade.
Benalmadena
Benalmadena is located in Andalucia
on Spain's Costa del Sol. You'll find it just eight kilometres
west of Malaga's international airport. Its ease of access
to the package holiday market, great beaches, major tourist
attractions and enviable climate all help to explain why Benalmadena
is fast becoming one of Spain's premier holiday destinations
|
 |
The
Benalmádena marina is one of the most amazing port and
residential developments in the world. It has model installations
and an attractive, unique architectural style. It has been awarded
the prize as the ‘best marina in the world’ on two
occasions, and since 1987 it has had the European blue flag
due to the quality of its services and water. It has 1,100 mooring
places and offers a wide variety of activities and events, thanks
to its facilities and the privileged climate of the Costa del
Sol. All these factors contribute to making the marina and its
surroundings one of the best places to enjoy the sea. Its climate,
with 320 days of sunshine at year and an annual average temperature
of 22ºC, makes it possible to engage in all sorts of tourist,
leisure and entertainment activities. We invite you to come
to the Benalmádena marina.
Fuengirola
The town of Fuengirola is located
in the Spanish region of Andalucia on the Costa del Sol. Since
the advent of the package tourist industry in the 1960s this
former fishing village has been transformed into a modern
high-rise resort favoured by Spanish nationals and foreign
alike.
Visitors flock here to enjoy
five miles of glorious sandy beaches served by all the essential
requirements of the modern tourist - bars, restaurants, entertainment,
high rise hotels and self-catering apartments
|
 |
Fuengirola
is particularly popular with Spanish nationals, many of whom
own summer apartments here. There are also a considerable percentage
of British and other nationalities with the result being an
impressively wide variety of entertainment and restaurant choice,
ranging from the Andalusian traditional tapas (bar snacks) and
shellfish dishes to the British bangers and beans standard,
together with Guinness on tap.
Marbella
Marbella
county covers a total area of 114.3 sq km and 26 km along
the coast.
It comprises several important urban sites: Marbella, San
Pedro de Alcántara, Puerto Banús, Nueva Andalucia
and Las Chapas, as well as several suburbs. According to 1998
data, the population amounted to 98,377 voting people, although
it is estimated to grow over 105,000 during the current year
2001.
Marbella is surrounded by Estepona, Benahavís, Istán,
Ojén y Mijas.
Probably the most famous area of the resort is its seafront
"Golden Mile" stretching from Marbella to the luxury
yacht spotters' paradise at Puerto Banus. This stretch is
where Marbella's wealth is most in evidence - Ferraris cruise
the quayside, the seriously rich dine in fabulous restaurants
and lesser mortals pay an arm and a leg to sip a glass of
wine and people watch. The port of Puerto Banus, to the west
of the town, is home to a collection of some of the swankiest
yachts in the world. Members of the paparazzi mingle with
the ordinary masses, all hoping for a glimpse of the stars
and mega millionaires whose floating palaces leave quayside
spectators gasping in awe.
|
 |
You
don't have to be Bill Gates to holiday here - but expect to
pay more for everything than you would in mot other Spanish
resorts. There are world-class restaurants offering top quality
cordon bleu cuisine at top prices; but you can still find plenty
of back street Spanish tapas bars and restaurants where you
can enjoy excellent home cooked fare at a fraction of UK prices. When
the almost obscene wealth on display at the seafront becomes
too much to bear, head into the charming old quarter and explore
the narrow streets with their jumble of bars, bistros, shops
and galleries. The focal point of the Old Town, still partially
surrounded by the ruins of an old Arab wall, is the lovely Orange
Square with its ancient stately buildings, tall trees and exotic
tropical plants. The square dates back to 1485 and is dominated
by three buildings of historic interest - the Town Hall, built
in 1568, the Baroque style church of St Mary built in 1618 and
restored after the Spanish Civil War of 1936-39, and the old
Governor's House dating back to 1552. As for entertainment,
Marbella has it all. There are parks and gardens to relax in,
every water sport imaginable, golf, horse riding, hiking…
And when the sun goes down…prepare
to party! There are clubs, casinos, discos and cinemas enough
to keep you entertained till dawn.
Puerto Banus
Puerto Banus is located between
Marbella and San Pedro (approximately 6km from Marbella) on
Spain's renowned Costa del Sol. It was inaugurated in 1970
and is home to some of the most impressive yachts in theworld.
There is a wide array of expensive bars, restaurants and designer
shops in Puerto Banus.
When José Banús
gave his name to the now famous port it was unlikely he envisaged
it becoming one of the most famous marinas in Europe. Puerto
Banús is synonymous with wealth, fashion, glamorous
parties and the 'highlife & nightlife'. It's reputation
is high-class and high-price-tag. The "place to be"
and "to be seen", this is where the elite classes
and would-be famous are to be found.
|
 |
This
is the place to be pampered yachtside and ogle those fabulous
luxury yachts while sipping a drink at one of the many open
air restaurants and bars. The setting is close to ideal, with
its impressive mountain backdrop and ocean views.
Estepona
Estepona is a truly privileged town. Located on the western
Costa del Sol it offers the visitor an unrivaled array of
attractions. Glorious summers and mild winters make it the
perfect holiday destination for the discerning traveler.
|
 |
The
flip side is that the numerous street cafes and tapas bars still
serve traditional Spanish delicacies and the steep, cobbled,
narrow streets seem more suited to horses than cars. You'll
also find unusual shops and bodegas in Estepona, where you'd
least expect them, all very inviting, very friendly - and very
cheap!
Steeped in history and culture the town remains unspoiled
and future development is carefully planned to ensure the
preservation of the town´s identity.
